Links to Poindexter Related Web Sites

There is a lot of Poindexter information and research done by individuals that have posted their information on their own web sites. We list them here when we become aware of them.

PDA Members' personal web sites, alphabetically by last name:

Other Poindexter web sites:

Other Related Family Associations:

  • The Meriwether Society, Inc. (those descended from Capt. Joseph Poindexter's son, William, are descended from both the Meriwether and the Lewis families.

Geographical Web Sites:

  • Oxford and London area maps useful for both travelling to England and for Poingdestre family research. Jean Poindestre was a fellow at Oxford, our immigrant George may have been educated there as well.
  • Gloucestershire, England the PDA's EPARC is following a vaque lead that our immigrant may have held property in Gloucester.
  • St. Peter's Parish Church
New Kent, Virginia: the home parish of the Poindexter family, including our immigrant George. Be sure to vist the home page, but also be sure to see these pages of St. Peter's web site:
    • 1682 - 1758 Vestry Book Of Saint Peter's (use the FIND function of your web browser to locate "Poindexter" on these really long pages).
      • Book A: where George Sr and Jr were involved in defining land and where immigrant George Sr., after being elected to, refuses to serve as a vestryman in november of 1690. This is interesting because he died about that year, at about the age of 63.
      • Book C: 1701 accounts of Thomas Poindexter, 1702 mention of Geo. Poindexter, and more.
      • Book D: many references to Geo. poindexter, a church warden and vestryman.
    • Registry: lists of who was born and baptised and when, includes the children of slaves. Look up the surname and then go to the listed pages, again using the browser FIND function to locate the surname.
    • Also see Landers page 87, etc., for excerpts from St. Peter's Vestry Book.
  • Virginia Historical Society
The PDA's official depository of the "Poindexter Collection." Members are encouraged to deposit copies or originals of their research in the VHA archives by contacting Dan Story.
