Introduction

You are cordially invited to join the October 2013 Poindexter Descendants Association (PDA) tour of the south of England and the Isle of Jersey.  The full two week package includes one week in England and one week in Jersey, the ancestral home of the Poingdestre/Poindexter family.  This is your chance to visit important historical sites that shaped England and its culture. You will also learn about events and places in Jersey that affected our ancestors and residents today.

The objective of our week in England is to give us an overview of life in England from Roman times (2000 years ago) through Norman times (1000 years ago) to Victorian times (150 years ago) up to the present day.  Our first five days are based in the Victorian seaside town of Eastbourne. Next we travel to the Mill Rythe Holiday Village on Hayling Island, close to Portsmouth which has rich history and the Historic Dockyard.  A number of Poingdestres escaped from Jersey to Portsmouth during World War II.  Then we go to the Isle of Wight, located in the English Channel a few miles off the southern coast.

The objective of our week in Jersey is to experience the history and culture of the place where our ancestor George Poingdestre was born and lived.  He came to Virginia in the 17th century where he established the family in America.  Jersey is located 85 miles off the southern coast of England, just 14 miles off the coast of Normandy, and is approximately 45 square miles. We stay in St. Helier, Jersey’s capital city.  For many, the highlight of the trip to Jersey is the chance to see Swan Farm, the manorial home of the Poingdestre family and, we believe, the place where George was born.

If you can't join us for the full two week package, we offer a one week package for either England or Jersey.  Even though the two weeks are coordinated and planned together by your hosts, if you only have one week to travel, then simply indicate your choice on the Registration Form.  But we hope you can be with us for the full two weeks.

Your hosts in England are Janet and Nigel Poingdestre Eyres.  Your hosts in Jersey are Jamie Poindexter and Michele Jacques.  Look through the information and contact Nigel or Jamie if you have any questions.  The Registration Form is now available.  We are accepting registrations and payments at this time.  We sincerely hope you can join the 2013 Poindexter Descendants Association tour of England and Jersey. Members and non-members of the PDA are welcome.
