Variations
in spelling of Poingdestre and Poindexter:
Poindexter is the Latenized form of Poingdestre from the Isle of Jersey.
We use the two interchangably, usually referring to the American descendants
of George Poingdestre as Poindexter since it is the common usage. Other
vaiations of the name do appear in America:
- Pendexter in Maine, USA
- Podester originally from Italy, mistaken as Poingdestre when in Jersey
- Puddester in New England, USA
- Poingdestre
descendants in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand
