Family History and Research

Gloucestershire (GLS), England

We have a brief reference from a commercial source stating that our immigrant George came to Virginia by way of Gloucestershire. As we have been unable to find records of his marriage to Susannah Nicolle and the birth of their children, this may be a place to look.

We need to research marriage records that the LDS microfilmed from the Shire for the 1640s and 1650s (see email below).

However, in Landers, page 85, he quotes a land grant given to immigrant George in Gloscester County, Virginia. This either indicates that George's relation to a Gloucester is in Virginia, or perhaps because he had property in Gloucestershire, England, his grant was made for the Virginia County by the same name.

There is a film at the LDS of Gloucester Marriage Allegations which goes back to the 1600's . It's full of detail and properly typed out. I hate those little bit of parchment, they are hard work to read. The film gives so much detail too of Bondsman etc.
