Following the PDA Reunion,
add a week in Jersey
The Ancestral Home of the
Poingdestre Family
ARCHIVE FILES OF 2007 TOUR
You are invited to join members of the Poindexter Descendants Association by adding a week to your vacation for more fun, adventure, and family history on the Isle of Jersey. After a wonderful week touring southeastern England at the 2007 Reunion, extend your visit with this extraordinary tour of the Isle of Jersey, the ancestral home of the Poingdestre family.
The Isle of Jersey is located just 14 miles off the coast of Normandy. During our week in Jersey, we will experience the island’s history and culture of the past and present. We will learn about the events that affected the lives of our ancestors and of the islanders since our immigrant, George, left Jersey in the mid-seventeenth century.
Our bus and walking tours, led by Sue Hardy, will be laced with communal family meals, family history, shopping, and island stories. Sue, a Blue Badge Tour Guide and a native to Jersey, led our group’s bus tour in 1998. She knows our family’s history and we are pleased she will again be available in 2007.
We will explore castles, museums, and points of interest to our family history. We plan to tour Mount Orgueil Castle, where recent archeological research has opened new areas of the castle and provided new interpretations of its use. We also plan to visit prehistoric man-made mounds and scenic coastlines from where we can overlook the lands that were once part of the medieval feudal Fief ès Poingdestres. Two must-see places include Saint Saviour Parish Church (the Poingdestre family church) and Swan Farm (the manor home where George, our immigrant, lived as a boy from his birth in 1627).
If you have questions, contact Jamie Poindexter at 608-271-6150 or jamiepoindexter@charter.net. She has been to Jersey three times and is studying the island’s medieval history. Please join us on this trip to Jersey. We look forward to traveling with you in June.
